Maplin were selling this strange solar charged battery powered fan and light unit a few years ago for less than the price of the 5W solar panel on its own. The unit also had an analogue clock, crude AA and AAA cell charger, USB and 6v outputs for Nokia phone charging. I bought three of them mainly just for the 5W solar panels. Time to take one apart.
Looks like a great little fan light combo for camping in a tent a camper would be pointless I would think.
i love how dirty these look. it makes me pleased that something that filthy can work.
That thing is the definition of contraption.
Link to the products? Where did you buy your solars
Them z44n's are some decent fets.
These brings back so many memories! FYI these were branded as mains only rechargeable battery devices in Pakistan. These were invaluable in the 35C heat when the electricity went off! (like it usually does every 5 hours or more for at least 2 hours everyday!)
i need one.
Wow it's perfect for EDC! I dare ya to carry it with you.
Can you send me the circuit board? I can pay for the postage of course. I just want to take a look at it 🙂
Dragons Den reject. Like most of Maplins products.
Smash it open and look inside… Nice work
I feel quite sad when our redundant electronic friends get stripped down and scrapped. Glad to see some parts reused though. Great video Julian 🙂

Good kinda "junk" you got 🙂
I feel like someone had a good connection for extra parts and decided to make this thing from spare stuff..
