The last of my Sure Electronics LED drivers is tested with a 50W LED. A very cheap VGA Cooler heatsink and fan provides cooling and there's a nasty fizzing noise coming from somewhere.

How long can you leave this 50w led on for? Would it be suitable for aquarium light use?

Does this small vga fan cooling the 50 watt led effectively when the led is on full power?

I have a question do you suggest using a single double decker or 2 in series when running a 100watt led?

Today I put all components together, followed steps and it was a great success. Only limited the voltage to 25 v. Still very bright and the booster does a fine job as well as the heat sink. The booster can be used in lots of geeky applications. Again thanks Julian. One problem remaining : putting all of that in a box!.

Julian, you are the best. We all thank you. I am almost finished getting all of the required parts to build.

What about LED's surface temperature. I've seen here on youtube a test where 100W LED surface heats up to 160 degrees centigrade, which seems a lot to me… The aluminium bottom of LED has a generous heatsink, but the surface heats up realy bad.
So, what would be the best way to eliminate that huge amount of heat of the surface? Maybe submerging in mineral oil or something…? What do you think about that? I'd like to make a 100W flashlight and  I need some opinions…

did you ever get a chance to try the vga cooler on a 100w led ?

great series. A problem that I find with these high power LED's is that they  usually are not labelled at all. so you have no idea what you are getting. Ordered a  100 Watt LED and sure it gives  a lot of light… but then it seems to consume only 660mA at 30 Volts… which makes it more of a 20 Watt LED. Did the seller make a mistake?, or did he just knowingly deceive his customers?

do these led arrays, need reflectors or lenses??
