The Supercapacitor module (6x 120F 2.7V) didn't like spending a year outdoors. Now I've got a new capacitor module (6x 10F 2.7V) in a weather resistant box.

Too funny!!! yeah water+voltage=corrosion = project fail..RTV will help alot..i needed a good laugh today THX!!
A bottle of clear nail lacquer costs under 3$, just buy it, coat the pcb and components, coat the space around the caps so no water can get in, and your ready to go. Or just get a plastic casing
What about Sealing the case fully and putting a few silica gel packs in the box? Especially if it doesn't receive direct sun light.
Not just any old weathering, weathering in British weather
Why not just conformally coat the thing?!
LOL!! Is he really that dense or is he just trolling?
I really have too ask why did you place it in that location?????? I mean seriously!!!!
I think the original system with the SLA batteries would have fared better than these super caps. lol
Doesn't understand what an IP rating is … has no evidence but doesn't trust the box anyway. Never heard of IP rated bulkhead connectors. Just fail man.
You got to grease your O rings. Pot the circuit board into something like LM2 grease. Moisture ingress to components via the legs will kill them.
knowlge about electronics obviously doent make a person have comon sence. His poor wife has to go out to work while he plays about with gadgets
"outdoors might not be good for surface mount"??!!!
Nah mate, it is the Slugs that are not good for SMD. Well, Slugs, acid rain, and stuff like that.
So perhaps just add some varnish next time. It might very well make it last twice as long.
Other than that. I love, absolutely love, the willingness to test – and observe the results – no matter the level of random destruction.
I also agree, that watertight mainly means, once water is in, it will definitely never come out again. So I also think that ventilate is the way to go.
Supercap slug killer doesn't like the outdoors shocker!
Mine's still holding up well.
Mind you, I live in Manchester – it never rains here. ๐
Why not stick a couple of the silica gel in it?
I wonder if dipping it in a can of automotive clear coat lacquer would create a working conformal coating layer.
Julian, you so so many interesting things then let yourself down with this?
