I got scammed buying replacement LED light bulbs for my car. OK the H4 replacement lamp was never going to work, but the tail/stop lamp would have been really promising if the bayonet pins had been the right way round.

Are they not allowed in cars what aren't fitted at the factory

Use a adjustable power supply, dont play around with batteries…

Wait do you think the running light filament goes out when you hit the brake?
If the lights are on one filament is on, hit the brake both filaments go on.
Still be brighter when the brake is applied.
And the headlight is most likely crap but without the refletor I don't see where you showed anything.

those led brake light bulbs are not close to being bright enough, even if they fitted its a downgrade.

Make sure you ask for a refund from the seller. If they refuse, ebay will sort it for you!

Fitting LED or HID bulbs to headlamps not designed for for these bulbs is an MOT fail and illegal under current EU law.

say, you can fix the peg issue, just resolder them.

Fitting LED or HDI kits to headlamps that are not made to take these lamps will fail your MOT.. in the UK ( Headlamp not compatible with the light source )

Are these legal for road use in the UK? In Finland I tried replacing the little bulbs that illuminate rear licence plate. The inspector noticed them and said no no, only original incandescent type allowed. Considering the quality control of these led retrofits it may not be such a bad policy I thought at the time. But what is up with newer cars with oem led lights often having distractingly low frequency PWM!

In dual filament bulbs you need to also look for back-feed to other bulbs in parallel ie., in a two element brake light bulb, the "parking light" filament is installed in parallel with the other marker bulbs. This now creates an alternate path to ground. I have LED brake bulbs which function correctly when bench tested as you did here, but once installed in a vehicle, the alternate path to ground is not blocked by any diodes. This creates "fun" faults such as making your "headlights on" reminder buzzer sound when you press the brake pedal.

I've used the LED style bulbs in my lawn and off road gear. For those they are nice because the same things that make them crap for road use is an advantage. The wide flood style beam and higher color temps work great in the work lights those vehicles have. Plus the lower current draw allows more lights to be fitted, that is a good thing on my snow blowing tractor. Lets me see and be seen by the folks if I'm out in a storm trying to stay ahead of the snowfall.
