could I use a couple of graphite rods wired to a supercap as a spot welder?

I wouldnt recommend charging them with eneloops because the cap almost makes a short circuit when charging up so that will damage the batteries. Unless that board prevents that….

Julian – have you heard of the joule thief circuit? It would work well with the Super Caps to keep the LED going..
Have you watched the video of the fellow who uses a pack of these to start his car instead of a 12 volt battery? Seems to be having good luck even in harsh winter weather when cars are hard to start.
roughly 75mah capacity, it works out to, not a lot for the size. theyd need to be 10x betterto be replacing batteries
Far too fast of a discharge rate to really be of much use in the majority of circuits. One day though.
I've used 18, 500F/2.7v EDLCs 6 series/3 parallel as a secondary energy storage bank between my solar panels and my controller. By doing this I've extended charging times by several hours past sunset and they absorb spikes as well as smoothing the energy being fed to my batteries. To reduce chances of over voltage, I've used simple 2.4v Zener diodes in reverse polarity on each individual cap. They could also be used between the battery bank and the DC to AC inverter for supplying starting loads. We all know a battery that has smooth power in and out, is a happy battery.
( make sure you have a good schottky diode between the caps and the panels )
