My mate Mark (who's a bit gung ho at the best of times) has so far broken 2 Hubsan quads and will no doubt break several more in the weeks and months ahead. Guess who has to fix them.

thats why you use prop removers
The Hubson H4 is totally useless rubbish! Mine bounces around so much and is so hard to control I can't even keep it in my yard! I should have known there was a problem when the guy selling them at the mall couldn't fly them either and kept bumping into people! The Syma X5 is a bit easier to keep under control but that's just because it's bigger and slower so it doesn't dart around quite as fast.
I broke the case on mine, so I have to solder all the motors off and on(thankfully not LEDs) with my cheap Chinese soldering iron. I'm really not looking forward to it.
I've got a couple of hubsan x4s, great little quads and it's pretty cheap to get motors and props and new receiver boards are like $15aud. micro-motor-warehouse sell excellent frames for them called "Dream Catchers", highly recommend them!
Excellent fix and wow, they are amazing little motors, thanks for sharing.
Those motors desolder from the controller board pretty nicely. It's not to hard to change them out. There are replacement one's on Amazon. I've replaced several on mine.
Love your videos Julian, but was watching that safety pin moment through my fingers – was expecting to see you spear yourself if it slipped! 😂
you can get a full set of motors for that for less than a fiver
Those coreless motors are pretty crap to be honest. Push the props too hard and the guts fall out, pull the wires too much and they break, and if you can keep them together they burn out. 150mm brushless is the way to go if you want a small quad. 🙂
The direction of the commutator bars inside the motor casing is reversed in the two different versions of the motor, so you could run it in reverse, but it won't last as long.
I would guess that the RTC connection is "Remote Trigger Camera" – some of these small quads come with a camera module attached, and this could be the trigger signal if you had that button on the transmitter.
The are all backwards lol we all been in that situation.
RTC couldn't possibly be for the camera version of this hubsan x4 could it? Then they would share the same main board and have an extra camera board, makes sense why they would have a + and – there as well
