With the Oscilloscope in the DC coupled position, you showed that the coils are sufficient but there could be a slight modification to the other components that could make it much more sensitive.

this sort of "track on the board" actually a "printed coil" is used in some PI underwater detectors
Just as a note… the little handheld units that look like a small flashlight have a very similar sensitivity… the idea is you use the big unit to wave around and then a small not so sensitive unit to finish finding the item in the hole you're digging…. because a highly sensitive unit would beep all the time in a hole with an object and you need to find the exact area….. Looked fun I mite have to send for a unit from BangGoodies….. LOL

So when metal is present in the coil area, the resistance in the coils is so great that the current prefers to flow more to the speaker side and that's why its beeping?
I don't think it's suppose to be a treasure detector but more of a metal detector like nails driven into wood. Cause you're not catching me down on all fours on my lawn with that thing lol.
Might be more sensitive if you used 5V instead of 3. This might make a good cheep pinpointer.

Julian, put some heat shrinking tube on the jaws of the alligator clips, and of course shrink it 🙂
