It's worse than I thought! Not only is this not MPPT, it's not proper PWM either and the temperature probe does nothing. But far worse than that, there appears to be an attempt to fool buyers of this controller into thinking that maximum power point tracking is actually taking place. It's not (and this can be proved by checking if there's any current gain - there isn't). And all this trickery actually reduces the battery charging effectiveness. It's a rip-off, don't buy it.

You do realize you have to multiply the current times the volts that are incoming to figure out the wattage. I'm guessing you don't know that. I just learned that TODAY myself. Say you have 24V x 4.5A = wait for it. Over your 100w bulb pull…. 108w charging.. hmm… The charger can ONLY charge as well as what's incoming through it. Correct ?

Thanks for this! I have had one of these on my camper trailer for a few years now and I've always suspected that it was not a real MPPT controller. I've never got more than about 12v/5A out of a 100 watt solar panel, even in full sun.

Clearly, I suppose, you're extremely knowledgeable, but where does that leave me (and other suckers) who don't know jack about solar and are trying to complete their first simple project. I thought I had it all figured out. All I need is an electronic device to limit the voltage from an 18v solar panel to the 12v pond pump that will turn off the pump when the sun don't shine. What device (specify is best) do I need.

this charge controller is a fucken shit! do not waste your money, its cheap but at the end it will destroy your battery, all china made charge controller are fake… it indicate that your battery is full but in reality its not and you keep using your battery until it drain how many i purchase a cheap fucken china made and i end up in using morning star pwm charge controller da best
