Dear Julian inspired by your project I'm trying something similar myself. I have an old car battery and just bought a solar panel and cheap controller. I have a 23 watt mains LED PIR light (bought a Chinese 30w light). Could I power this off the 12 volt battery? I'd need a 12v to 24v converter I suppose.
Julian, thanks for sharing and showing all the details of your project. I an planning on building some walkway solar lamps on some post like stand. Just in the educating mode right now but really appreciate your work.
WHAT IS THE INTENT OF MAKING THE led SHINE DOWNWARDS ON THE BATTERY? i THOUGHT THIS THING IS INTENDED TO ILLUMINATE YOUR YARD.
application excellent but looking at the output of the light do you really want to see the solar stand or open area ?
"Brilliant"

not sure if you have done an update but you should add a poll and relocate the led higher
Is there a need for LED driver!?

Not exactly a tutorial is it!!
try to make it a charging station
why's it pointed down
Great show!! I would protect the battery and the electronics a bit against the weather, and place the led light somewere else.
