I both love and hate this PIR LED Sensor light! It must be the ugliest electronic device I've ever bought, but it's also extremely useful. The LEDs are a bizarre mixture of cool white and warm white, but it does have the option of switching one or the other off. The Li-Po battery pack and USB-mini charging port are sensible, but the Li-Po has metal spikes pressing into it which is a bit of a worry.

that mystery chip is a 4.2v Li-ion/LI-Po charge regulator. Capped at 1A charging current.

Greetings! Funny how things work, I have nearly completed the build of just such a light for the bathroom of our Motorhome. My wife wanted something that would come on at night when we are boondocking (camping with no shore power or water etc. in the boonies) so I took an old Arduino and connected a PIR sensor as well as a set of 10 LED's on a board that I built up a few years ago in a kit deal, and am about to mount the whole thing, using just such a battery into an old Zune case left over from my Zune colecting days. I still have two working Zunes, and this one never did work, just picked it up for an extra hard drive for the other two, and a spare battery. Should do the job, I think I shall add a charging board to the build and she should work just fine in the little cubby that serves as a bathroom in our old rig.

The mysterious chip is a lithium charging chip, they always have 5 pins and the same pinout and if you google them youll find nothing. The allow for a led to be connected to show when the battery is full. Almost everything is integrated, current is set using a resistor.
When you short the output, the thing makes noise and releases magic smoke. It also drives the led continuously then.

Is it safe to close the holes in the lipo with a kapton tape? Or better don't close the holes to enable gas leakage of the damaged lipo? One reason for the lipos insulation is to avoid the moisture of the air. May be replace that thing, if there's no consensus about that.

We have on some days, had a unit crash and have had fires.
Some immediate, some after 30 minutes of smoldering. We remove battery from aircraft and place it where it will do no harm.

Please tell me that this thing is a chinese "self import" and not something you can buy off a local dealer. Poking a Lipo surely is the worst of it. But the soldering job is horrible. One of the battery joints on the board looks like an cold joint, but at least it's not really a safety issue. The solder balls still sticking on the solder mask on the other hand is another desaster waiting happen when they break loose and short something out.
I really like ordering stuff directly from China, because half the time it's the exact same thing you can buy locally anyway, just at a fraction of the price. But when I see a product like this …

You should send an email to the seller and/or MFG of this unit. That's a real hazard waiting to happen!
Julian, Can you recommend some LEDs that can be used like a halogen spot light over a framed art piece? I may need to bring my own battery powered lighting for an art show.
The H1MA may be a 5v 1ma regulator.ย I suspect it is an in-house marking.
Julian you need to change the description to inevitably incendiary! The situation will only get worse should the pack puff up from overcharging or over discharging. At the very least I would be putting a layer of cardboard or even better fibergalss between the PCB and the battery. Surely there must be some authority you could notify to have any future examples of this unit being banned from import. Not very practical on a one off import basis I agree but under the circumstances it is all that is possible. Frankly LiPo batteries are not really suited to a mass consumer items although are OK if the user is aware of the dangers and safe handling procedures.
Btw, you need a Lipo Guard. haha
Just DIY a poor man toilet nightlight using cheapie HC-SR501 PIR Module, One watt LED salvaged from a used flashlight. Next move, hook it up to a 9 LEDs Piranha panel.
