I did the same thing. Inserted my batteries reversed for a couple of second and it emits Magic Smoke but the damn thing is still works!
Interested to learn from the experts here, how you would propose to fit a single diode as protection, given the current flows in both directions. Into the battery when being charged and out of the battery during discharge.

I'm building my own 18650 cell power bank for my iPhone, but how can I get the most out of my 10 cells? High volt and a Buck converter or low volt and boost converter??

Ok That was a simple enough test. but what happens when you put 4 x 18650 batteries in the wrong way in a power bank at the same time? We have to know!
As you have covered so many 18650 Power Banks, do you have a recommendation?
Don't feel bad. The 18650 batteries don't have the dimple on the plus, its easy to do. I seen when you put it in and was telling you, but you couldn't hear me. I use them a lot for my vapor. I will buy the power bank because you were talking highly until the smoke.

I have that power bank. it's nice. It basically has one of those USB doctor / readout things built in. Shame :/
