Nice easy electronic kit build. This unit simulates the sound made by the Cicada - a large insect found in warm countries, that produces a high continuous sound (apparently). In part 1, all the resistors are fitted.

    Those resistors are really annoying!

I don't get it!! I LOVE the sound of Cicadas! (Long "a" in the middle). I always associate their sound with being out of school during summer vacation and riding my minibike. (1970's).

If your camera has adjustable aperture, increase the aperture and use more light. This will increase your field of focus ie., the range of distance filmed objects can be from the lens and remain in focus.

Cicadas are interesting, they lie dormant under the ground for 7,11,13 . . years and then all the members of a species pop up at the same time one summer to mate. Each species has a different period so you get cicadas every year. The periods are all prime numbers to prevent the different species from becoming synchronised. I'm pretty sure that I know this because David Attenborough told me.

Why would anyone want a cicada simulator? The insects are mighty noisy and it gets irritating listening to them chirping away in the trees during summer months.

Cicadas already occur naturally so why would anyone want to build a circuit to simulate the annoying things?

you cut an american resistor on your sponge

Clever from ICStation. Why paying 320$ (default cpv) for AdWords with 8000 views when you can just send Julien a 2$ DIY kit to get the same.

Blu-tac to hold the board down… that is genius.

A kit from IC Station, with no IC's in it. WTF?

Honestly, the autofocus on your camera isn't that bad, I've seen far worse/slower cameras before… AvE and his catch phrase come to mind.

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Gotts says:

Both the hard a and soft a pronunciations are used in the United States. In my region we use a hard a. Apparently in California they use a soft a.

I love your sense of humour, Jules! Also the different sponge cut outs 😀 That's a lot of fun! Must have taken you ages to cut the resistor out, looks neatly done 🙂
    On to part 2! 😀
