Nice easy electronic kit build. This unit simulates the sound made by the Cicada - a large insect found in warm countries, that produces a high continuous sound (apparently). In part 2, the transistors, capacitors and LEDs are fitted.

US brands of electrolytic capacitors (which I haven't seen any of in ages) typically mark the positive terminal, not the negative…

WTF ?! I cant belive that you, with your experience, dont know how to use wick ?! Anyway., before make a video and call it rubbish then do some research first on the usage if you never used it before!

The silent L in the American pronunciation of "solder" ?
The pronunciation was probably inspired by words such as "forecastle" which is pronounced "foke-sul", where the original "re", "a" and "t" are silent.

Yay, I got my cheap wick to work. I tried using Ebay fluxes, and it was like Julian's one, but then I dipped it in plumbers Bakers Soldering Flux and it worked perfectly. Even though it has 40% zinc chloride I've got boards done 3 decades ago, that weren't washed, that are fine. I wash boards now, but I still use this stuff and it's the best.

Needing to bend leads like that just means that the board design, or selection of the transistors and capacitors for supply with the kit is just wrong (yes it is a chinese kit!)… otherwise bending the leads before insertion, while protecting the component body from any stress is the way to go. Transistors and capacitors are often supplied on a bandolier with pre-bends to particular hole centres…

Why do the Britsย pronounceย Tubes asย Chubes?

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars MrBrymstond says:

You have to heat the wick first as you're touching the excess solder.

How much voltage will it needย to let the smoke out??
    Best thing for it.

wow!? you don't know how use de-solder braid? weird, i would of thought you being an electronics guru, you would of had at least a few encounters with de-soldering braid. oh well, not trying to break your balls, good build vid, Julian.

after fake breadboards we now get to see fake wick

I lay the wick over the blob in question and heat the wick to suck up the solder. Been using solder wick since 1979
