I did a little sound activated LED kit, 10 LED, and when I had botched everything together, it worked, almost with 8 LED responding, then I cracked the solder joint on one of the capacitors and could not for the life of me resolder back, the little tinned pads on the cheap circuit board had vanished, how does one recover from something like that with these kits and limited soldering skills?

Does the kit has even a simple explanation about the working of the circuit? The years of '80s the kits were not cheap, nor the 40xx ic series but at least had some explanation and also were two electronics magazines Elektor and a local branded one that could read and gradually start to understand the circuits from the simplest designs to most complex schematics.

Neat kit! Maybe an arduino temperature sensor for more realistic randomization.:D

I was waiting for you to just put it together not molest the kit

I made one of those from Kasyan TV. The video was titled "Stealing from China 2". It had the PCB Gerber files and components lists, giving me everything to make one myself after ordering some parts of course. I wish more people did that with each video. Makeing Electronics at home now is so easy and wonderful these days.

hi lee ive just built one of those kits but I have encountered a problem which is when I apply power all 7 leds light up and pressing the switch does nothing I have checked the schematics and made sure all the components are in the correct place and they are the only difference between your kit and my kit is the 2 ics solder direct to the board with no sockets so I made sure I limited the amount of heat when soldering so any ideas cheers peter

thank you my friend. i have one similar to yours but with out markings ( k or numbers on the pcb ) I have completed the project and it's working fine. thank you for letting me being ware of the (8550) their was no numbers on the my pcb thank you showed me every thing were they went. I knew some of the components went. once again thank you friend
