In order to further my understanding of lithium battery technology, I've been on an eBay buying spree. It's all cheap stuff of course, except the mobile power packs and the Soshine charger which were around £10 each, but they have some very nice circuitry inside.

hello Julian ,I've been watching your channel for a while now and I'm pleased to say I love it. I've got a quick question. I want to charge 9x 18650 batteries with a boost converter. so its 3 in parallel what voltage would I have to put out from my boost converter to charge it.

can u recommend a good (cheap) 6×18650 case powerbank? I hope it has undervolt and overvolt protection.

The ultrifire's might be fake some are smaller battery in bigger cases
what the difference between 18650. AA rechargeable batteries ? i am bit confuse ..

Hi Julian did you manage to work out how to get all the functions of the white power bank operational. I found chinese instructions but the seller couldn't translate for me. I can see battery percentage, output voltage, change the output voltage up/down but there is a secondary button beneath the right hand side of the display which I think raises the USB voltage by 0.5v. Supposedly should be able to measure current? what is auto and not functions – as you say neat electronics terrible UI
you should get yourself some panasonics, they cost a little more but have much greater capacity

i want to add that the BEST 18650 i have are recycled from old laptops
mostly Panasonic and Samsung 1800-2200Mah but even the no name i found inside last twice as long as the Ultracrap from Ebay
i get ~ 90min full blast on my 1 cell T6 headlight with my recycled cells
and ~40min with the new Ultracrap
BTW i have a charger / USB power box like yours and when i recycle my pack i keep some tabbed 2 in parallel so when i run my pack i am running it off 8 cells not just 4
