Smoke and fire (well not fire) when I overvolt these cheap bicycle lights which have overstayed their welcome.

Big fat waste – I'd have desoldered the LEDs and switch, and kept the battery holders!

It's pretty easy to get the power draw quite low when "off" – I have done LED blinkies that run off a single CR2032 with an ATTiny85 – in deep sleep mode, just waiting for a keypress interrupt, I've left them for 3+ years and they come right back up again in the same mode they were left in, still with the original CR2032 in them. Draw in these modes is nanoamps, impact to the cell is less than the shelf life would drain it anyway.

Unusual/asymmetric flash patterns are very useful on bike lights. Regular flashes are thought to create a hypnosis or target fixation, especially in tired/drunk drivers. This can cause them to steer towards the blinking lights. Breaking the pattern up can keep them from doing this. Or that's the theory anyway.

Watching you use that knife makes me wince, and I'm not even the one holding the knife. :/

Hmmm. Might want to put a warning somewhere about flashing red lights. Don't suffer myself but I'm fairly sure epileptics would have serious issue with that video. Thought you were doing a trash review on some bicycle lights that failed in spectacular fashion while out riding or something. Still, always nice to see things go pop.

Snuff video. Great. But please remember the safety rule "BOTH hands behind the cutting edge"!
