£1/kWh is an absolute joke..how are we supposed to be ambassadors for this ridiculous amount
I wonder if that charger is so much cheaper..well its horribly slow charging, so they want you to go shopping and spend money there at the shops, whereas the fast charging, you charge up while sitting in the car, and then leave relatively quickly. There used to be lots of free charging around but not anymore. I'm afraid it will get very expensive in the near future to charge your car if not at home. People in apartments don't have a lot of options for charging, and those that must park on the street.
14p per kwh is kinda pricey, I see why electric hasn't caught on. Here in the USA I spend about 10p to drive my 20 year old Saab and it doesn't get terrific mileage… still less than electric though.
Do you sell or deliver milk from that glorified milk float?
Hey Julian, a question from someone with no electric car experience – If all the chargers are connected to cars and you see one that's finished charging, are you allowed to disconnect the lead and plug your car in instead? (assuming there's a vacant parking spot within lead length of course).
On a similar theme, are there instances of people disconnecting, adjusting or otherwise interfering with an unattended car being charged?
Cheaper than your home power tariff ? You can see where this is headed. People purchasing ENORMOUS EVs with GIANT batteries, to go out and buy some cheap power and bring it home on wheels. Some EVs do have power outlets, so it's a small step to use a big truck as a back-up power source. Maybe have two trucks, and cycle them back and forth. Maybe buy a house near a cheap charging station and have a dummy car with a feeder cord running out the back, under the fence, and into the house.
Meanwhile, in Canada, the local IKEA store offers FREE EV charging. But it's limited to to 6kW charging rate, which is actually only worth about one Canadian dollarette per hour ($0.17/kWh * 6 = ~Cdn$1 per hour). People actually go out of their way to take advantage of this, because 'green signaling' is invaluable to them, even if the dollar value per unit effort is highly dubious.
In five years time – "do you remember the EV thing? Yeah it was great… Then they cost too much to run"
I use 25kw driving to and from work. The only thing keeping me sane is knowing the country will go bankrupt before home energy pricing gets that high.
Good god, and I thought the 50p/kWh Instavolt near me was pricy. I'm sticking with my Octopus Go 7.5p and will make a point of never going to an Osprey charger.
And to think a year ago all the enginie CCS chargers around here were free…
I'm sure that people will start buying cheap insurance write-off vehicles so they can charge them for 14p/kWh (or free at the local supermarket) and drive them back home to power the household appliances.
Cunning – reduce the power while you are away, so it makes you go back to look around the shops.
This looks like a nice hobby for pensioners or housewives. I don't have enough time in my busy day for this sort of hoop-jumping.
Thought it looked like Lidl carpark.
you people in the uk really believe in that climate change bull shit
that is ridiculous. if your car need around 50kw/h to coast at around 80km/h that would mean a cost of 50$ for an hour. comparatively a gasoline car would cost around 10$.
