Why a FPGA and not a CPLD ?

  2. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars DAVID GREGORY KERR says:

I think that Jeri Ellsworth used a FPGA in one of her digital radios.

Are you still putting money in China's pocket then?

I'm kind of fascinated with FPGAs, even though they're beyond my knowledge base. I'm more of a sci fi author than an electronics guy. LOL But that said, I think there is a segment of the FPGA scene waiting to be born (that tickles the fancy of my sci fi self). When I was researching FPGAs for a story, I found myself looking around for open source cores that you could download just to see what was out there. At first it was old ones like the 6502 and 6809. But to make it sci fi, you always need something more, right? LOL So, this led my research down a rabbit hole of FPGA cores for chips that never existed. Things like a 64-bit variant of the 6502. I love that. Virtual chips that are the descendant of architectures that basically died. This creates a scenario where you can play "what if." Like – what if the x86 architecture failed to overcome the 65xx architecture? What would a computer from that reality look like in 2020? Would it be a multi-core 64-bit 6502 descendant running a later version of GEOS? What would that look like? Alternate reality computing with FPGAs. LOL Anyway, sorry about this wandering comment. 🙂

If you are into FPGA's then tinyfpga would a good look.

Try displaying bitmap on those oled's it will look very good.

I'd love a dummies guide to a simple CPLD blinker, I had a look and found the whole thing just way too complicated to get into

Hi mate wats quickest to put pir module to rgb 5mitre 12 volt

I just installed Quartus Prime 19 to play around with a MAX V CPLD, I think I'm running at about 12 gigabytes of downloads/installs so far, but it is all working!

    Very fun.

That's a cool OLED test board. Is that of your own design or is it commercially available?

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Sasszem says:

FPGA… Yea, that Cyclone II one, I have one myself, I'll get to build that VGA generator EVENTUALLY…

  12. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Stig B. Sivertsen says:

Some FPGA videos could be interesting

Great video Julian and I enjoy the surprise post bags. I haven't received any items from Aliexpress since the end of last year which makes me think they have shut things down. Have you any feedback on Chinese delivery? I'm planning on shifting to local suppliers with the added cost for the next few months.

Watching this from France, but actually have a brand new USB blaster sat at my mum's house in the UK that I'm never going to use. I can get her to post it to you if you give me an address to post it to.

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mads says:

I have exactly this model of the Cyclone FPGA
