There was a time, not so long ago, when you could buy cheap electronics on eBay with no VAT and no postage charge - now it's all a bit more expensive.

Why did you select extended part for a 0603 red LED? I recently struggled finding basic red and green LEDS but did find them in 0805. Even though I have ordered JLCPCB assembled boards several times, I continue to have pains when seeking and selecting parts. I learned a thing or two from this video, thanks!

Been getting away with it for ages with the VAT. If i was charged vat on any small item i would let customs keep it. Most things got through without a VAT charge. Now Vat is charged at source all items have gone up. Can't quite understand why most items now have posted charges? I now check costs via AliExpress and compare with ebay to make the extra cost of VAT against ebay seller applied charges . But be warned they show price before VAT and VAT is applied to postage . Purchased a few things via AliExpress and not had any issues thus far. So can't compare ebay buyers protection. Life has changed, and now i have to do a lot more research and not buy modules for fun testing. Would be interested on how the UK keep tabs on counties charging VAt on the UK behalf . plenty of opportunity for fraud by sellers.

So did some of this stuff take a year to arrive?

Being in ones sixties seems to be a bit of theme this week- and I also bought shed loads of stuff while it was cheap, I had packets arriving daily from China, all with free postage, and very often something won at auction for 99p or even less sometimes- again with free postage from China. Alas that is all gone now, and it ain't that cheap, so I will have to contend myself with my OAP pension and live of my huge stockpile of anything from an Arduino to a Zeener diode !! There isn't much I dont have currently in components.

The comparator on the Arduino is used to detect a voltage on the external power input and turn off 5V power from the USB port.

Ever thought about getting into ESP8266 or ESP32? Program then using the Arduino IDE and you've got a powerful processor with WiFi.

I had to stop this video to visit aliexpress for the one thing I needed… After an hour or two I had 53 things in my shopping cart.

I got a few arduino nanos that came with those short blue USB cables and wow, those little cables smell is INTENSE. I kind of like it, but also scary. Lol

With your nano baseboards, you have a mix of Rev2 and Rev3 boards… Rev3 added the dedicated SDA/SDL pins, rather than relying on A4 and A5 being dual purposes. The IOREF pin is supposed to be tied to the voltage rail of the processor, so that shields could adapt to the system voltage. And the other extra pin was a reserved pin, and not connected to anything. The only main difference I can remember between the Duemilanove and the Uno, is the Duem came in 168 and 328 flavours, and had a FTDI USB UART, whereas the Uno went to a Atmega8u2/atmega16u2 (depending on revision).
