I bought a few of those frequency counters. Modified input a bit so it has more gain for low signals

(Read this with Julian's voice in your head). Addicted to eBay, hmm. I am also addicted to eBay. There is no organization, that I know of, that can offer help. Is help needed. (Rhetorical). If you can afford it, go for it. There are a lot of inexpensive electronic doo-dads to be had for a couple of quid.
I (Julian) show you, (quite well, I might add) exactly how they work, whether or not to get them, and how to make them work if they are not quite up to snuff. (I love practicing my English). Let's see here. What do we have next….?

You cost me a lot of cash Your postbag

In general, I think aliexpress is slightly cheaper than ebay, if you care about shaving off a few dollars.

Re. the frequency counter – we bought 2 for work – basic measurement, not worried about accuracy, but it's surprisingly good. Used for a test of a project using an XMEGA device (you can program the frequency of the XMEGA fairly easily, on-the-fly).
I fed input through a 0,1uF cap, as the XMEGA is a 3V device, didn't wanna damage it, as the PIC runs at 5V. Yeah, good for anyone's toolbox.

yeah you're right, i still enjoy your channel, thx for that.

Interestingly, the top left of your group appears to have a different programming header orientation.

The truth is, things from ebay you buying actually comes from Aliexpress, then resold on ebay at a higher price, it's called drop shipping business.

As you described which was the thick Pro Mini board and which was the thinner, the picture of each showed just the opposite.   The thin board looked clearer thicker in the picture and the thick board was very thin???  Just saying!

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars superdau says:

Are you sure about the cheap version being the thin one? It's hard to tell from the pictures on ebay, but it looks like the more expensive one is the thinner board. Also more importantly, the thinner version has the fuse on it, the thick one doesn't. The ebay pictures show them both with fuse, so one of the seller obviously cheated you 😉 .

At last an item that I got years before you (it happened a few times that you showed a product in a video that I just ordered a week or two before that and had yet to arrive)! I told you these pro minis are the best for integrated projects a long time ago 😉 . The correctly laid out ISP pins make them as easy to program as any Arduino without the bulk (and cost) of an integrated USB-UART converter. Since you program via ISP anyway you can also get rid of the Arduino bootloader (more space for your program and faster startup), a thing that I do on most Arduinos anyway (I still use Assembler half the time and non of that slow and bloated binaries that Arduino creates 😉 ).

And yes the button is in the way, just desolder it. When programming via ISP you don't need a reset anyway and if your program acts up the reset button is not the way to solve that!

That Pro Mini is the only one I buy now- it has the best pinout of all of them- most flexible!

i have 10 arduino! (6 nano 2 mega and 2 uno) and i also have NO interest to learn programming code….
i believe nano is lot better than mini!!

I finally became a patron. Thanks for all that you do!

The switch on the pro mini looks awfully close to the pins on the chip.
