Uh your PDF link is broken
That Imogen Heap sound reminded me of Laurie Anderson's work. Did she use a Vocoder?
I'm just rewatching old videos and I wanted to correct an error in this video. The musical scale is not as simple as you stated here. In the modern 12-step scale, the frequency is multiplied by the twelfth root of two for each step up. If you start at A440 and you want the next note up, chromatically, or Bb, you multiply 440Hz by 1.059 (approximately 12โ2) and get 466.164Hz. For the B you would mutliply 466.164 by 12โ2 to get 493.833, etc.
I've been following this build and drawing circuit boards to make my own. I've found that R18 is missing from the Internal Excitation Network and I've determined (I think) that R18 has to go from the wiper of RV7 to pin2 of IC4 and R17.
the twin T oscillator is fun, it gives incredible mechanical sounds, like bells.
The opening to Intergalactic by the Beastie Boy's also make use of a roland VP-3 Vocoder apparently.
The link in the description doesn't work anymore.
I wish I had a scope
I'm rather excited ;).
I wonder if you've built an old-school ring-modulator. A couple of transformers and a handful of diodes gives sonic weirdness. An afternoon project for you!
Yes, her voice is awesome and now I see why the vocoder is such a great project to do, good luck with it Julian, God speed!
Is anyone else experiencing the sudden urge to watch Star Trek (Shatner)?
Wonderful project. When I was little, I remember Newcleus used vocoder in their "Jam on it" track.
What are your plans for the PCB's?
