I wonder if the 2 wire LED string use the "1 wire" protocol or something similar? Although, that being the case, I would have thought they would have been a bit more adventurous with the different functions. Look forward to seeing more of it!
The led lights if addressable would be great to drive relays over a 2 wire link, you would need an converted DIY opto isolator with filters to detect up the colours, Time for the scope.

The one I got a while back had a little black box on the power cord where you could select,which pattern you wanted

yeah, you can buy those wireless candles for some years now, but more expensive.. ^^ Around 50 Euro for 12 candles

To create different colors over 2 lines could be done with different voltages.
