What about getting SMD version of the chips.
Is it really worth buying 22-year old chips with an unknown history from China when, say, CPC do them for 36p or 拢3.10/10, delivered free in a couple of days if your order is 拢9.60 or more?

Jeez, you're lucky they even bothered using cut tubes. Those things would've probably been destroyed had they come how a majority of my components come from China (free floating in a basic ziplock bag)

that's impressive, I've never seen tubed chips get damaged in transit, the ones who just stick them in a zip lock bag on the other hand…
