That PCB with the daughter board is a work of art! Well done, Sir!
"That little tab" on the pot is referred to as a locating pin. This goes back to the days when pots were connected with wires rather than going into a circuit board, and was useful in that equipment which had front-panel markings, like a 0-100 scale or something of the sort. I can remember seeing this mentioned in a very early servicing text, which also stated that if you were replacing a pot and it didn't have a hole for that pin, you should bend it over (if metal), or snap it off (if bakelite).
I'm surprised at soldering while pins are in a breadboard. The whole point of those is "solderless". 🙂 I would have expected some plastic melting to be happening there…
Julian, as a quick'n'dirty fix, wrap a couple (or more?) turns of twine or string around the threaded portion of the pot to space it from the back of the board. Or, if you have a sander, thin the plastic washer slightly so it all lines up.
Hello I was wondering if you could review or post bag a sabertooth dual motor speed controller. More specifically how to control it manually without the use or remote control. I understand it uses PWM and am looking to control a tracked vehicle with a “wired” joystick or twist throttle like ebikes. Thanks
How to clean a soldering iron tip. scrape iron tip against edge of sponge like cleaning paint off a paint brush back into paint can ( this flicks excess solder off tip ). what you are doing is like trying to clean a paint brush in a cloth. not a criticisms just a tip
You're forgetting about the mic sensitivity to frequency that could cause the treble and bass difference.
Buy a box of washers from hardware store or lidls, they're standard sizes.
That satisfying feeling when everything is lined up and spaced just right, and everything just fits together!
You missed the opportunity to add another function to the board. An 8 pin SMD footprint in the middle (connected to the pins) would have been a good addition, adding the function of SMD to DIL adapter to the board .
Neva rite mother board now daughter boards 😂😂😂😂fs
Brilliant as always, but why didn't you include "3-D Spectacular" in the title?
Beautiful system engineering Julian, but…
You better hope you never need to service that card now 🙂
Also, looking at the daughter card, might it have been easier from a soldering point of view to not use the corner pins of the "8 pin package" but instead use the rear 4 pins so you didnt have the awkwardness of soldering under the pots ?
You don't need to get more jacks to get more washers… you can just get them from a store…
Beautiful.
