That trickle-charge mode is an advertised feature on some banks – by default they'll stop output if the draw is under some very low amount, but you can throw it into the other mode for e.g. running a few LEDs on the top of a type-A connector for a tent nightlight

I know this video is a tad old at this point but my RAVPower PD Pioneer 15000 mah power bank refuses to to do anything but want to be charged. My Aukey PB-N83 negotiates no problem. Kinda odd.

I think it is 100mA Mode from USB 1.1

If you leave your power bank off for longer when you repower it the rav will assume you want to charge your power bank. The rav's default is to charge anything you attach to it.

The USB-A connector on one or both power banks might be directly connected to the USB-C connector. So you might be able to find out how much voltage there is on the cable by connecting to that.

My Anker power bank has a setting that outputs 5v at a really low current for charing watches or other low power devices. Wonder if that's what that one setting is

Hi Julian, I too have always been extremely fascinated and intrigued with switching power supplies and their use in practically every device now made either electronic or mechanical .I am wandering if you ever thought of or possibly tried accessing and reading the firmware that is programmed into all of the controllers that drive every type of switch mode device? If you are able to access or read the firmware, you would not only be able to know all the various modes and settings that each device comes with but you should then be able to set your own parameters and setting for all these power boards.

Time to cut a cable to insert a current meter. Nice to see the amps, hehe

How to stretch out a video? I know, I'll keep repeating myself.
