Julian i had been playing with these light sequencers years ago.
Have a look at the online seller Hobby King.
They are mainly for radio control guys but they carry a plethora of electronic components mainly connectors their gold plated banana plugs/sockets are very nice, they do a very nice servo tester in an aluminium case.
I used a version of a light sequencer as part of my solar system on my caravan.
4 solar panels with their own truck battery.
I used the sequencer to operate auto relays feeding into a large cap.
From here the 12v DC was fed into an inverter. All 4 batteries feed the control circuit via diodes in case of a battery failure.
I leave my caravan unattended for weeks at a time, running a fridge.
This way if one leg of the system fails like a bad battery or solar charger, 3/4 of the system still works.
I try to have each battery feed for about 5min.
Works very well as the fridge is not running all the time.

Julian Ilett Hi Julian, here I found the instructions of the usb buck converter, and it is included also the function of voltmeter calibration.

    voltmeter range:. DC4.5 ~ 40V
Input voltage: DC 4.5~40V (please input voltage dc 6.5-40V , then can get a 5.0V stabilize output)
    Output voltage current: 5V/2A
one button "Output Enable" switch USB output, one button "Low Power" turn off the voltmeter display
    Voltmeter display can be calibrated
with reverse polarity protection, with over current, over temperature protection
    with USB power indicator
with terminal for easy access lines
    high-efficiency, low ripple
    Module dimensions: 58mm * 21mm * 10mm (L*W*H)
    Net weight: 13g

     Voltmeter calibration method:
1, when the voltage meter display, press "Output Enable" button 2 seconds then release, voltmeter flashes.
2,Touch the "Output Enable" button, the voltage increases one unit, touch the "Low Power" button, reduce one voltage reduction unit(one unit is less than 0.1V )
3, After the voltage adjustment is completed, please press the "Output Enable" button for 2 seconds then release, exit voltage calibration mode. if power off, parameter setting will automatically save.

    Data pins:
this module defaults to D+,D- shorted, compatible with most of the cell phone charging, if need to install identification resistor, such as IPhone please cut off the red line position

I really love your videos and I hope this will be useful to you and all people who own one of this usb buck converter!

    Kind regards.

Hey Julian, if you used the RS232 connectors as female only, you could use the cable itself to connect the electric bike to the balance lead since the cables are male on both ends. The balance lead would just connect to the second female connector.

This would also allow you to put everything in a project box rather than just open.
