You should never leave Pb-batteries in a discharged state for longer time – thats the worst you can do to it. Always charge them fully up to store and tickle charge them every month at least 🙂 Otherwise the PbSO4 (lead sulphate) will build bigger and harder cristals that cannot be resolved any more and dont take part in the electric charging and discharging process any more. There are some technics to revive these sulfated cells if you use pulse charging with a lot higher voltage to break these cristals. Its not easy and in some cases it wont work – depending on the state of the sulfation. The longer it stands uncharded the worse it gets. You can use high voltage peaks up to 100 or more volts for a few ms and a duty cycle of 10-20% until the battery starts taking some current. But it wont come to new-state of course 😉
This bike looks the same as the izip cb26. I have one. I used it for a couple of years to go to work until a charger fault killed the batteries. I have new batteries now because i was given them. I'm going to lithium on my next replacement.

Great Video, have you heard of an Optimate Battery charger /conditioner? I use it on my motorbikes and the batteries LAST. It can help recover older batteries too!!
you can use a bms to protect and charge lithium ion battery .. but use same battery from same batch with same capacity and manufacturer … bms will cut of the charge if one cell reach 4.2v which is low capacity then the whole pack charge will be stopped by the bms and it also apply for discharge.. use those Panasonic battery 2500ma they cost 180$ for 40pice and you need 6s to make 24v .. and also you need a good 6s bms and it doesn't matter how many you put in parralal 6s2p =5000ma at 24v ,6s3p= 7500ma at 24v , 6s4p =10,000ma at 24 v and you need 48 of those lithum battery.. i recommed 6s 5p for 12500ma and it will just need 54battery and it is equivalent to the capacity of lead acid battery but lot lighter so that you can get it a lot longer than usual acid battery which is heavy but inexpensive… and you can use the same bms for every cell that means 5lithum cells will be paired together and monitor by one bms waire and then 6 of those 5 parrala cells connected with the bms you can see many videos on YouTube how to connect a bms!!

why not just replace the stock batteries, they last for about a year and you can get for around a hundred dollars
