I always planned to sell an enhanced version of the PWM5 solar charge controller with a set of connectors to make connecting a solar panel and car battery easy. For one reason or another, I never got the product to a market ready condition.

Back in the day things like those binding posts, banana plugs, and clips were made out of copper, often nickel-plated. Seeing all that rust suggests that this is not the cse with the stuff you have there.

It might be interesting to see what exactly the resistance of all of these connections turns out to be. i would use my "Blue ESR Tester" for the purpose, since I have one. But anything else you might have that could reliably measure low ohms should work.

As of now, (mid july 2014) the 99p stores have the solar butterflies in ๐Ÿ™‚ I just got one for a teardown video ๐Ÿ™‚

Why not just put one binding post on a +ve clip..? Then it should be able to be squeezed easily to go on to the larger battery post. A bit ov a thought eh. ๐Ÿ™‚

if you want to seal something to prevent water getting in, use epoxy glue. Slow cure one will fill the gaps better.

I was wondering what Crocs were LOL.
ย ย  I love the different names for similar items in GB and USA, like Torch=Flashlights and Crocs=Alligator Clips.ย  I also appreciate the How to Hints as far as soldering and using Heat shrink. I have always believed that the better the connection looks is directly related to how good the connection is.
ย  ย  Love the reviews of small DC items on ebay. It's a shame there isn't a program on eBay like there is on Amazon where you can make money if I purchase something from a link you post. .

Okay, I understand that theese things get corrodised, but then why dont you protect the from water?

Any idea where to get 200w solar panels cheapest in UK? i checked ebay and google but all are very expensive.. The cost of watt is about a 1$ or less but in EBay UK its so high and cant find much competitions. Rest allย  will only implement the solar in home and dont see much selling panels alone cheap… Any luck in finding the best seller ? Since its too heavy cant import from china unless its a container…

I would recommend you to take a look at weather-protected and automotive connectors which are completely shielded, that would solve your corrosion problem.

why the strange idea to try and connect an MC4 (designed for outdoors use and waterproof) to banana plugs which are pretty much the total opposite and one of the worst ideas for outside/wet use ? ย There's all kinds of plugs/connectors for outdoors use, banana's aren't one of them.

O rings under the sockets and silicon grease inside and around your bananas will help a lot

How convenient. I need to buy a few (about 10 pairs) 4mm banana plugs but I'm struggling to decide which ones are the best quality/price.
I will be using them with less than 10A so not much but I'm looking at something that doesn't look cheap and doesn't brake. Can you give me a link to what you think is best?
This is to make custom probes for my DMM and charging cables. I'll use some silicon wires for that, probably 14AWG.
