Interesting, you worked in a field very similar to my father. He was a service tech for Xerox (and other brands) copier machines for 23 years. Me I've moved from sales to manufacturing of various kinds of electronics. Right now I build circuit boards for water testing equipment.
I was pretty much the same with day release… not interested.. (the boss had me on the wrong course) so I got fired. LOL.
I still resent that 🙂
Smith's industries is such a household name in the UK, or was.
Have a Merry Christmas and happy new year
I loved Field Service Engineering too!
I had very similar story but I was into microscopy and I loved it!……VG Scientific…..not around now ….sadly
i live in cheltenham so was finny when you said cheltenham in the video
The way I do these kits is put all the resistors together and all the caps together etc. Take a resistor measure it with my meter look up the value on the parts list and put it in the board with the legs slightly spread to stop it falling out. Solder all the resistors then cut all the legs off. Same with caps. This way you know what value component you have actually fitted. You only pick up the iron and the cutter once for each type of component.
You soon gave up using the component tester to confirm that you had selected the correct components, particularly the capacitors.
