This nice looking green/brown denim rucksack has a solar panel which delivers more power than its 5W specification would suggest - about 7.5W on a sunny June day.

You need to come to Australia Julian, we have very strong sun here. It must be annoying having a solar setup in England where it's cloudy so often.

Hi Julian! I've obtained a (probably ok) 100AH deep cycle battery, and am looking to power some lights from it, and use a 10W, 18V panel (from eBay). From what I can read, I won't need a charge controller for this as the panel is much smaller than the battery capacity. Would you recommend use of a charge controller, or just a low-voltage cut off relay to cut the load if the battery discharges too much?

I went to Banggood, they have up-rated the solar panel to 10 watts….. I was impressed at the price for a 5 watt charger, not for the 10 watt, just because they cheated on the rating, lol…. You keep up the good work, love your post bag…. etc….

….currently "the bag" is charging my tablet at over 1A (wireless) on this bright and sunny day….seemed too good an idea to simply dismiss as "rubbish". The bag is very nice in its own right and is perfect for my daily needs in any case.
    Cheers Julian..cheers Bangood.

The audio of your camera is really AWFUL. It is well overdriven, scratchy and biting.

Don't forget the 'doughnut ' effect with PV Cells. This is where you get direct sunlight from 'blue' sky that is surrounded by light white cloud. You can get your 1kw/m^2 directly + 15% of indirect light from the clouds. This may be why the power reduced when you lent in to get a shot of the power meter. My 2600 Watt PV system often peeks at 3200 on a cool cloudy day.

Sun powered solar panel as opposed to the water powered solar panel?
JL, All solar panels are powered by the sun i.e. Mr.Sol.

Thanks, Julian. It'll probably be rated at '20 W' within a year, and sold with a 'lightweight 30,000 mAh battery' .That 'W' represents Chinese Watts, just as the 'mAh' signifies Chinese milliamp-hours! In that way, ying balances yang, and harmony between the numbers is maintained. 😉

I'd assume the back section is for a laptop and the side zip is to have cables passing through, for a powerbank for example. The panel might be 10W but the maximum output of the USB is 5W. This is usually to make sure you can get enough out even in poor sun conditions.

I'm looking for a good powerbank for the money and a power monitor that is able to measure capacity of a powerbank. What would you recommend?
