Review of the Xintest HT-02 Handheld Thermal Imaging Camera http://bit.ly/2h92DNE on banggood.com
What's good: Simple to use.
What to watch out for: Thermal image not aligned with optical image due to parallax.
What needs adding: Menu selection for alkaline or NiMH batteries, menu selection for black/white optical image, ability to fix colours to temperatures, hot marker should be black, greater range of colour palettes, thumbnails and date/time in list of stored images.
"Includes Paid Promotion" in this video means that the thermal imaging camera was kindly provided by Banggood at no cost to me - there were no cash incentives for me to make this video.

I recently bought a HT-02D super budget thermal camera. I use to take thermal image of my computers and electronic setup and sometimes post em in my Youtube channel

When I have used this for electronic work, I need a very powerful light jus to see what components have the short. Also, the trigger button, which enables you to capture the image, is a nuisance, so I glued mine to stop it from accidently being pressed. In other words, this is a piece of shite!

    Cheerio..

BG = Back Ground temp? Do they expect you to adjust the background temp for each environments? Maybe it would help with the color map.

As usual the firmware sucks. Chinese companies should make it an habit to open source their firmwares and software for products they sell. Their stuff would sell like crazy and the community would fix it for free.

I am not surprised, current rechargables stay close to full voltage and then drop rapidly at the last minute (think about the nimh batteries on your portable drill). In contrast, alkalines see their voltage drop linearly. It's up to the manufacturer to use some sort of "algorithm" (If they can trust their battery's specs) to display a compensated value. Without an algorithm they can display the actual voltage which is bound to the battery's curve OR take the complex route of "learning" the battery's curve to show a proper level (this is what chargers do) but to do this you need to be able to charge and discharge the battery. WHICH BRIGNS US TO what is actually happening here; the battery curve in the firmware DOESN'T MATCH the battery in the device. You brobably have a counterfeit battery in there.

Thanks for reviewing, it certainly looks like garbage.

Can the intensity of the thermal be turned down so you don't have such a washed out thermal view?

DO NOT BUY THIS Thermal Imager. Its not worth it.
I bought this on AliExpress for £150.

I immediately sold it and bought the Seek Compact for £180, which has an sensor that massively superior to HT-02 and alike.
The HT-02 is not worth more than £90 if you ask me. The thermopile is crap.
For electronic work, it is useless. The software has poor contrast control making it impossible to make out slightly warm components. The range is crap.
If you can score it for a low price then, its worth it, but £100+ is way overpriced.

Remember that AA batteries have 1,6 v but rechargable AA batteries having 1,2v only…that's why battery icon may show you 50% of battery power!

which model is best in electronic repair
