I think you use the word "curious" incorrectly many times and got on my nerves a little ๐Ÿ™‚

Love your video. How about hook the two motors up to pots so you could dial in your own pattern?

With microphone in place, was expected some rather loud music to be played to see how this Disco light would change its patterns.ย  Would it only respond to low frequencies and change only in the few presets, or would it respond quickly with many patterns changing at once and give more pattern effects.ย  No matter as it was very interesting to see the tear-down and its internals.

    I looked into the laser.

Exactly how I got started with lasers. I used two motors, two mirrors and a 556 timer clocking a quad of 4017's. Never counted how many patterns it had. My laser was just a tiny bit larger though… an argon laser which chewed 1300 watts of electricity to produce a 180mW aqua beam strong enough (when the motors were off) to light a cancer stick ๐Ÿ™‚

    Please take apart the diode

Interesting. Why not rewire it and show us how it would be constructed today using more modern components?

I had a spirograph when i was young! lots of enjoyment….

If the sun is out……..why not work on the MPPT??

I had one of those about 10 years ago! During my Disco phase… Broke it some how! OOOPS!

Edit- actually you can see the 'granular' effect in some shots.

You can of course make 4017s less than 10 state devices by coupling one output back to the reset input… I wonder why the laser performs so poorly, and goes out of focus- do you think it could actually just be a big red LED? I don't see the 'granular' look in the video that you get with true lasers due to interference fringes… Great video Julian; not often I comment on them but I always enjoy them- keep them coming!

Maybe add motors and mirrors and have it present different combinations of logic operators. AND, OR, XOR, NOR, NOT, NAND, would all have different motors running, or at different speeds. Probably not much more interesting than what it does now. Could be though.

you'r getting quite boring Julian ! what about quadcopters and your fpv camera ? there is a lot to do with arduino and multicopters .
