But I now know why - and I've fixed it 🙂

Nevermind the processing the vocoder adds… but that mic is beautiful! You should use it (and maybe the pre-amp section) for your screen capture segments. (Yes, I know I'm two years late.. I'm watching your videos from oldest to newest… I'll be into 2021 soon enough!)

I never was sure of what a VoCoder does, and am none the wiser now. As long as you feel it was worth the effort I guess that is OK !! Good video though!

  3. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Wayne Jones says:

What do you use this for when it's finished?

  4. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kasami says:

I think some people are missing the fact that this is only one of the filter boards/channels/frequencies/whatever. This is far from representative of the final result.

so it's been what, a year now? to make it sound this awful? 😀

    The Vocoder now sounds…. Vocoder-ey!

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dmax says:

it don't sound anything like my old Roland SVC 350 but maybe it needs a better carrier signal

I hope you didn’t really unsolder those links to put the modified “pot” in. You just soldered the resistors in right? Tack one end to the link already in there and the other end in the via. A 0805 smd resistor would have been a perfect fit.

So many pcb and work for this result 😀 wow

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Phil Owen says:

You sounded just like the smash advert. They take their potatoes and smash them all to bits 😉

Hi Julian, great project, but you need to get the scope out and do some good old signal tracing.
It would be worth checking each stage to see if it is distorting/modulating properly.
I now some stages are over driven for effect, but I would be checking with a scope that each stage is doing what it should and with the right output levels.

For the level on the "level meter" its output level is pretty poor.
Have you calibrated the "level meter"?

What the heck is this vocoder for? I can't find any explanation in your playlist (admittedly haven't watched much of it). Why would anyone want to use such a thing?

Supreme Dalek to Dalek Warrior, imposter detected, imposter detected! Exterminate imposter! Exterminate imposter! Humans using defective vocoder technology will not be tolerated! Exterminate! Exterminate!

Then mend it, dear Julian, dear Julian, dear Julian,
Then mend it, dear Julian, dear Julian, mend it.

With what shall I mend it, dear viewer, dear viewer?
With what shall I mend it, dear viewer, with what?

With a resistor, dear Julian, dear Julian, dear Julian,
With a resistor, dear Julian, dear Julian, with a resistor.

The resistor leads are too long, dear viewer, dear viewer,
The resistor leads are too long, dear viewer, too long.

Then cut it, dear Julian, dear Julian, dear Julian,
Then cut it, dear Julian, dear Julian, cut it.

With what shall I cut it, dear viewer, dear viewer?
With what shall I cut it, dear viewer, with what?

With some snips, dear Julian, dear Julian, dear Julian,
With some snips, dear Julian, dear Julian, some snips.

The snips are too dull, dear viewer, dear viewer,
The snips are too dull, dear viewer, too dull.

Then sharpen them, dear Julian, dear Julian, dear Julian,
Then sharpen them, dear Julian, dear Julian, sharpen them.

With what shall I sharpen them, dear viewer, dear viewer?
With what shall I sharpen them, dear viewer, with what?

With some humour, dear Julian, dear Julian, dear Julian,
With some humour, dear Julian, dear Julian, some humour.

The humour is too dry, dear viewer, dear viewer,
The humour is too dry, dear viewer, too dry.

Then wet it, dear Julian, dear Julian, dear Julian,
Then wet it, dear Julian, dear Julian, wet it.

With what shall I wet it, dear viewer, dear viewer?
With what shall I wet it, dear viewer, with what?

With water, dear Julian, dear Julian, dear Julian,
With water, dear Julian, dear Julian, with water.

In what shall I fetch it, dear viewer, dear viewer?
In what shall I fetch it, dear viewer, in what?

In a vocoder, dear Julian, dear Julian, dear Julian,
In a vocoder, dear Julian, dear Julian, in a vocoder.

But there's a fault in my vocoder, dear viewer, dear viewer,
There's a fault in my vocoder, dear viewer, a fault.
