This Entex Space Invader machine was won by writing a limerick containing the words 'cheese snips'.

Somewhere, I have an old "arcade style" game where you're supposed to "shoot down" spaceships, but it just has pictures of spaceships in fixed positions on the back-plate and LEDs to make them light up, and you're supposed to move a handle to slide a vertical slit sight across to the lit-up ship and press the button to fire to "destroy" it. But I found that it didn't give you enough time to realistically line up the sight with the ship, unless you wrench the handle across with so much force that you're in danger of breaking the flimsy plastic it was made out of. And it was "clunky" and wouldn't slide smoothly anyway.
I found the timing circuit in the back and soldered a capacitor across it to slow it down, but that made it too easy and I eventually just gave up on it since it was just too difficult to find a balance, and in any case it wasn't interesting enough to play long-term.
The whole thing was very cheaply and shoddily made. I think I picked it up very cheaply either in a "surplus bin" or second-hand, and I only bought it because I thought it might be slightly fun to find out how it worked. It was less fun than I'd thought, but at least I didn't pay much for it.
I was gonna be a bore
until you gave me this chore.
So a comment you'll get,
Ser Julian Ilett,
I wish I could give you more.
You are sounding like Pam Ayres 😀😀
no thanks, i am not a poet and i know it.
Julien made a vid for Youtube ;
And played this game like a noob;
You weren't that bad, 'twas said as a jibe;

Big clive has nothing to worry about. Tear down that doesn't actually tear down and no schematic.
There Was a Good Chap Named Julian,
He was Expecting to see some Boolean,
But the Toy that he Won,
Had No Zeroes or Ones,
I'm Thinking Toshiba was Foolin' 'im. 🤣
Space Invaders Came Down in Their Ships
Looking Around and Smacking Their Lips
They Got the Munchies
They Wanted Some Crunchies
Then the Queen Brought them Crawford's Cheese Snips
(God Bless the Queen)
Since you mentioned made in Japan, I just had to go with my personal favourite limerick:
There was a young bard from Japan
Whose limericks never would scan
When told this was so
He replied, "Yes, I know
But I always make a point of trying to fit as many words into the last line as I possibly can"
So, the LEDs are so dimm that you could install the game in the memory socket of a laptop.
OK, it's my last limerick
Said I'd stop but they come rather quick
With scheme A A B B A
I could write these all day
But I prefer you not think I'm a…. twit.
😂😂 This has been fun!
Great content about an old game
These days they are not made the same
It had poor multiplexing
Which some people find vexing
An interesting find all the same
I'll stop now 👍
He tore down an invader from space
As always his method was ace
There was some corrosion
Luckily no explosion
From the batteries that were put in place
I watch youtube in one-forty-four-p
So Julian's close up is lost on me
I enjoy writing limerick
Syllable count is a trick
That keeps these poems from being easy
Not my best, but whatever
Same led are in old radio clock alarm thing
Okay, I couldn't resist – not very good, but here goes:
There was a young man named Julian
Who took toys apart like a hooligan.
He discovered one night
That the lights were too bright
For the viewers to see him scoring way cool again.
Best I could do in 5 minutes, which is all the time my interest lasted.
Julian said this vid should be a Tik Tok
But I'm glad at the fact it is not
For they hurt my brain
And drive me insane
I prefer this format quite a lot
