Im pretty sure its the e-torque that makes it 5-speed. I was surprised when i noticed this in mine, seems like a way to get away with simpler electronic controller. Not too happy about mine, but it was the only Ryobi with brushless motor where i bought it and brushless is important. The lack of gearbox gives it a nice sound, my Makita drill is of course much better but has obvious gearbox noise.
I have this drill oh, I want to start out by saying I love Ryobi tools. I am very disappointed in this drill! I have a 3 amp battery HP. The drill cannot drill a hole 4 inch hole saw without cutting out 50 times. If you use an aggressive Lenox 2 inch drill bit the drill feels like it's falling apart. Once again, I love Ryobi tools and have many of them for years. Very disappointed in this drill! I expect more from Ryobi!

Im new to these drills as ive just bought a Ryobi drill driver (got it for 80 quid inc battery and charger). I was disappointed that it didnt come with the small screw driver bit, even thought it was shown on the box. I tried it out with some new drill bits, but the drill bit seemed to wobble alot. Maybe I was using the wrong drill bit.
Yep, as a person who is interested in DIY and carpentry work.
Once you get used to Ryobi's stop method it's very easy to use and really powerfull.
The hammer drill version has the traditional stop and is more powerful but heavier.

At first I thought my brand new R18Pd5 has a non working gear box – thanks to your nice video I saw this is only a switch for the microcontroller to limit the speed! Keep on your nice work 👍🏼
I dont like that the 1-2 speed button sometimes does not function to change speed depending on the mode your in.
I can't stand that e torque stuff. I had a BLack and Decker with electronic torque sensing and it was hit and miss. I like the Makita mechanical clutches. They work so good versus many other brands.

Slip clutch each and every time….Unless someone buys me a new Ryobi….
Try a longer/bigger screw at full speed and the hammer will take the torque off your wrist like a impact wrench i think.
Take her appart ! We want to see her guts…im still keeping an eye open for part 2 of this video
