element14 sells for SG$151, cool for those who are new to this, no fussing with wire very elegant and neat for kids..

At 209 US dollars, this is flupping expensive. Well out of the range for a normal hobby guy. Maybe daddy will buy this for his 5 to 10 year old kiddie if he is a stock broker, a lawyer, or a bank robber.
As you got this for free, you should have checked the retail price.
    Necro-Posting at its best. LOL

Sooo what? Are you thinking you write C because you program Arduinos? Um, not necessarily, typically arduinos are programed while relying heavily on libraries to take care of all the difficult bits. While that reduces the challenge (the fun part of programming if you ask me) quite effectively, it also reduces the control you have and often bloats your resulting assembly. So while technically it IS C, and you can write full C code, often I find it's more accurately described as C with crutches.

I bought the Expert 301 kit on eBay for $130 and am beginning to think it was a big waste of money. I downloaded the IDE and tried to run some examples as shown in the manual that comes with it. The examples in the manual did not appear in the dropdown menu. Searching through Git Hub I can find some examples of code, but they don't explain which modules and what connections to make. I also bought some used Legos to try and make some connections. The Lego interface even sucks. The sensors do not have Lego connections. I suppose you need to buy one of the special kits and addition expense, they may work fine. If I am wrong on any of this, please point me to the examples that should be in the manual.

this kit would make for a GREAT 1U CubeSAT project

"Gotta be easier than writing C"

Almost anything would be easier than writing C. This, from someone who can program in assembly code, hexadecimal and binary.
(For the record, I think that programming in hexadecimal and binary might be slightly harder than programming in C)

Neat but imagine the amount of arduino stuff one could get for the $200 this costs. I do understand that it's designed for the beginner but I feel like anyone truly interested in the subject would outgrow this kit pretty quickly. I could be wrong though.

    Hi,

How did you upload the code to the mcookie? Every time I try to compile the code I receive an error regarding not being able the code to the mcookie.

I don't like kits that simplify the wiring of arduino projects. A beginner should learn how to use breadboards and protoboards.

Excellent review. Very neat system – tho expensive. I look forward to your kit usage videos !! {:>)
