One of my 80W solar panels fell off its frame last night - it must have been very windy. Also, the 30W LED garden solar light has finally packed up.

Well, here near the sea the temperatures are soft and I've never seen it snow here. The coldest temperatures are about -10 ºC since a lot of time, and they're rising (climate change, that why you use solar panels, isn't it?). Unfortunately, here in Spain, the legislation is harsh on solar energy. Not only there aren't any subventions nor incentives but also, there are taxes for using solar panels meanwhile connected to the grid! We have the potential of being one of the biggest solar energy producers, yet the badasses who govern us have decided not to, and we have to buy electricity from the neighbour countries, and we could be selling it!

Have you ever come across "Fake" solar panels? My work place has some solar floodlights with 50x50cm panels, they were throwing one out as "Failed" so I took it home. It appears to have no connections through the back of the panel, but has a junction box and the +/- wiring and bypass diodes in place. Removing the junction box reveals no possible connection points.

I once walked outside with onion clothing in a snow storm at -20°C in the complete dark in Dresden. I certainly didn't like it but I didn't have much problems with it. It seems I am really made for Suomi or Sweden. At everything above 20°C inside a room I feel uncomfortable, at everything above 24-26°C I feel uncomfortable outside.

Make those panels work for you, buy a grid tie 'limiter' inverter w/battery option… $300 for 1000 w or $500 for 2000 w, but of course the damn Chinese always round up these numbers, sadly… But it works at least…

come on man get some of those clip down tupper ware tubs and use a soldering iron to put holes for cables and hot glue to seal …. i took a circuit out once in the rain last week … its now fubard.

So, quite literally, your solar power supply has gone down. 😀 Time to check the other panel for secure fastening, because it could fall straight onto the first one, and break both.

A bit lazy?Dude, fasten them things so you don't damage a perfectly working panel.
    😁😁

had a Lensun 80 watt panel get ripped off van roof in 60 +mph wind storm – edge of panel hit so hard it cut one of the wires – ruined panel – panels need more than 4 grommets holes

I could never leave exposed electronics outside like that! Maybe for the day but not overnight even if it was "cheap tat"! Julian you do make me wonder sometimes! 😉

How high (solar zenith) does the sun have to be before you start getting decent solar output again?

do these solar panels provide anything during this weather?!

What about a big pole with all the panels mounted in it? wouldn't that be a easy, reliable and clean solution?
