After the unimpressive garden tests I thought I'd take this thing apart and see how it works. The secret black box contains a 555 timer with fixed frequency and fixed mark/space ratio running at a puny 4kHz. It's pants. This thing doesn't track and never reaches maximum power point so the MPPT claim is false.

so its basically a small bucking pwm controller! and nearly USELESS!
these company's must employ engineer cons. that their first career was as a con artist. then they moved on to electronics. some of the stuff they do. is down right criminal! does nothing as claimed . or not at all. or like the li ion batteries. just enough to call it a battery. with capacity of a capacitor! who needs a 18650 with under 500 mah. it's fine for a display. useless for real use. I guess like any other line. there is someone ripping off ppl. when there is. a legitimate product. someone is gonna find a way to con !!!
yea this is a old video. but could something like this . be easily modified. by adding a real inductor. and more FETs like some have suggested. maybe a micro controller. but if you do all that. you could just build a controller right! great video. maybe I'll catch up with you some day. by watching all your videos. you have quite the start on me. thanks…….

Hi Julian, I really need your help finding the right (real) mppt charge controller thats also cheap, I'm doing a solar project in Africa and will be install over 7,000 solar panels and charge controllers and just realised you can get FAKE mppt charge controllers from your videos!!!

My first thought on seeing the wire coil was that it's a shunt resistor. My second thought is how much trouble they take to build a fake, and how much more would it take (and cost) to build the real thing?
