The 1.1W version of these is even dinkier but with only 24 LEDs. Interestingly it will run from a 9V battery – potential torch hack available there.

The problem with "potted" bulbs like these is that generally the potting prevents heat dissipation, which means that they generally last 25 days (if I'm being generous), rather than the stated 25 years. That's based on my experiences with some similarly potted G4 bulbs a few years ago. Mind you those were mains driven and massively flickery, so clearly they had a different driver design. Still on the upside at least the clear casing means you'll be able to identify the components that failed easily enough 😉 Actually, please could you try burning some of that encapsulation to see what happens?
I also have a radio clock, according to the manual, it syncronizes with an atomic clock 2 000 km away in France! Pretty big distance, wouldn't you say?
Kilograms aren't just used here in the rest of Europe! They're used anywhere in the world except in the US, Birmania and Liberia. And I'm not sure about the latter ones, I believe they use metric, just not SI! OK, informal, non-official usage might be different, but I'm confident they're used in Central & South America, Asia, Africa, Austraila…
Scale manufacturers don't need to know that F = mg (therefore m = F/g) and that g ≈ 9.81 m/s^2, they just calibrate them with a know mass object (calibration weight). In other words, they go the engineer (practical) way instead of the physicist (theoretical) way.
those g4 bulbs,..i think these ones are being discontinued as a nearby wilko was selling them off at £1 a pack in the 'clearance' section, they have a slightly different type on the main shelves…at £4 a pack…
Great vid as usual, I plugged one of these into a Joule Thief with an AA bat 1.2v and was amazed how bright it lit. Vid on my YT
